Next Steps for Teacher Training

After discussing these needs with the principal and how to best address them. I suggested that a teacher leader should lead a professional development on a technology they use to blend with educational objectives. I suggested that this should be on a rotation so that all teachers have the opportunity to share their expertise in an area while mentoring other teachers on how to use these technologies in the classroom.
I-Ready is an instructional software that is being implemented at Westmeade that will greatly improve student growth and achievement when used properly. Research shows that when teachers use this tool appropriately students make growth. It is also beneficial to use this software as a way to inform and drive instruction through the use of the diagnostic screener given three times a year. Teachers being able to use this properly will ensure the effective use of technology and greatly impact student growth and achievement.
MNPS offers numerous professional development opportunities on SchoolNet. There are videos that can be viewed on Blended Learning in Elementary Schools. This provides an overview of a blended learning environment at Buena Vista Elementary.  Technology Essentials is another professional development opportunity that includes ways to effectively integrate technology in the learning environment. These are just a few professional development opportunities provided by the district but more can be explored through SchoolNet and by assessing the classrooms greatest need.
